FIVE GREAT LESSONS

Today for art the Upper Elementary students have been reviewing Maria Montessori’s five Great Lessons and started an extension based on one of them. Dr. Montessori’s Great Lessons give the students an overview of world history through deep discussions of:

1 The Evolution of the Universe

2 The Evolution of Life

3 The Evolution of Humans

4 The Evolution of Language

5 The Evolution of Math

The child focused on the third great lesson, ‘The Evolution of Humans’ by learning about the mysterious Lascaux cave paintings. After watching some videos about the history of cave art, the students found some examples in books from the library and started their own large works based on different prehistoric paintings.

They plan to create a model Lascaux cave the end of year art show.

Peace Assembly

Upper Elementary students entertained the school recently with a wonderful Peace Assembly that focused on community workers. After some chat about the role of community workers the other students were invited to join in a game of charades with students guessing the profession of the work being mimicked.

There was a surprise of poems, songs and at the end of the presentation for Ms. Danielle who received cards from all the children.
